Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes (CSA)

The bond between Monroe Clinic and our sponsor, the Congregation of Sisters of Saint Agnes, is celebrated throughout all facets of the Clinic, in our Mission Statement, the decisions of our leadership, our holistic approach to health care, our annual Mission and Values Celebration, and our belief that all patients should have access to quality health care regardless of their background or economic status.

In 1939, the Congregation established St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, Wisconsin at the request of a small group of physicians, who also opened Monroe Clinic that year. In 1992, St. Clare Hospital and Monroe Clinic consolidated services under the continuing sponsorship of CSA.

Our heritage as a CSA-sponsored ministry is strengthened by CSA’s inspiring origin. The Congregation of Sisters of Saint Agnes was founded in Barton, Wisconsin, on August 12, 1858. Father Caspar Rehrl, an Austrian missionary who established a sisterhood of pioneer women. Though CSA weathered many trials throughout their humble beginnings, today the Sisters of St. Agnes thrive, ministering with simplicity, hospitality, and missionary zeal in the United States and Latin America.
