The facts about mammograms and breast cancer.

If you watch TV, or use the Internet, or read newspapers or magazines, you know mammograms save lives. The American Cancer Society reports that, due to mammograms, the “breast cancer death rate is down 34%”.

Here are a couple more facts you should know about mammograms:

  • Screening mammograms are suggested every 1-2 years for women ages 50-75
  • If you have a family history of breast cancer, or concerns about your breast health prior to age 50, speak to your primary care physician
  • The whole process takes about 15 minutes, for patients who do not need special accommodations

Have you had your mammogram?

Monroe Clinic offers the convenience of digital mammography in two locations, Highland Women's Care (in Freeport) and Monroe. Digital mammography takes an electronic image of the breast and stores it on a computer, where it can be better analyzed for potential abnormalities. Mammograms are done Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. In Monroe, there are also a few additional appointment times earlier and later on Tuesdays.
